Homemade Hummus

Store-bought hummus can be expensive, so making your own is cost efficient and just as delicious (or better!). It takes almost no time and is a healthy lunch alternative that is full of protein. Here is my quick and easy recipe:

Homemade Traditional Hummus
1-15 oz can garbanzo beans, drained
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon Tahini (sesame seed paste - it's like Middle Eastern peanut butter)
Salt to taste
Crushed red pepper

Place beans, oil, juice and tahini in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth. Salt to taste and add some crushed red pepper for some kick.
Serve with fresh carrots, red peppers and pita chips.

  1. I agree. Store-bought hummus is super expensive, plus, you can't control what "flavorings" or preservatives are added. I love love love homemade hummus!
