Leigh Ellexson

Untitled Untitled Untitled
I've been a fan of Leigh Ellexson's work for a few years now, since back when she was in high school (doesn't it make you feel inadequate for your age when someone younger is just so much cooler than you?).
This girl rocks.
I love her unique eye for double exposures, composition, and framing. Her photographs are enchanting and fully capture the mood/season in which they are taken. And, so many of her images have been my desktop picture because of their balanced and serene quality.
She's absolutely inspired my own photography, and I can't wait to see what she does next.

Mixtape Monday: What I am Listening to and Why

A very random mix, but here we go...

1. Northern Lights - Kate Boy (The Swedes know how to make infectious music, this dance/electro track only makes me want more from them. See the video above!)

2. Flesh and Bone - The Killers (standout off their latest album/I am obsessed with Brandon Flowers, he has the most cameos in my dreams)

3. Hold On When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It - Stars (It's nice to see them back to their original sound that I fell in love with.)

4. Chemical Reaction - Sucre (Her music is very romantic, dreamy and orchestral.)

5. Speak Up - POP ETC (Off the last Twilight: Breaking Dawn Pt.2 Soundtrack, definitely check it out - it has lots of gems on it)

6. Skyfall - Adele (I'm sure you've heard this one, but it's so sassy and fitting with the movie.)

7. Hanna's Theme (Vocal Version) - The Chemical Brothers (Although I saw Hanna years go, I just now got some songs off the soundtrack. Joe Wright (director of Hanna, as well as Pride and Prejudice, Atonement, and Anna Karenina) knows how to perfectly set the mood with his composers. I have all his movie's soundtracks.)

8. Fire in the Water - Feist (Also off Breaking Dawn, this song is slow and sexy)

9. Come Talk To Me -Bon Iver (a beautiful and autumnal Peter Gabriel cover)

10. Rooftop - Lady Lamb The Beekeeper (if you're a fan of Regina Spektor, check this out)

11. The Sun - SURES (It's just good!)

12. Keeper - Shovels & Rope (I think I love this band so much because they are from Charleston, but Cary Ann Hearst's voice and rockabilly sound has got me hooked.)

13. Brand New Kind of Blue - Gold Motel (Very catchy)

14. Flask Retort - Bear Colony (uber 80's)

A Story for Tomorrow.

This video swelled my heart and left me wanderlusting for the Southern Hemisphere.

Be sure to check out more of Gnarly Bay's videos, they are all so gorgeously composed and filmed.

Banana Bread Baked Oatmeal

I need to share this recipe with you guys - Banana Bread Baked Oatmeal. It's off one of my favorite food blogs - Budget Bytes. This girl breaks down the ingredients of her recipes to the very last cent - perfect for college kids/recent grads. Bonus: She loves Sriracha AND she is also working on a cookbook!
But anyways, she has tons of unique oatmeal recipes - which I think is perfect for family and guests during the holiday season. Easy make-ahead breakfasts that keeps tummies tied over till the next meal.

Pumpkin Nutella Cheesecake

I made this delicioso cheesecake a month ago and am still thinking about it. I think it would make the PERFECT Thanksgiving dessert. It's not to hard to make, and will please both chocolate and pumpkin lovers!

BHLDN Great Gatsby Holiday Party

bhdn bhdn2
I am loving BHLDN's Holiday 2012 campaign, inspired by my favorite era - the indulgent, roaring 20's.
I'll just have to keep looking at these, watching The Artist, and perfecting my Clara Bow lips until The Great Gatsby comes out (which is sadly now May).

Mixtape Monday: Mountain Sounds

fall fall fall
I have been very pleased that the changing leaves have stayed on the trees for so long, much longer than I could have even hoped for, even with all the rain and wind we have been experiencing.
I wanted to pair some pictures I took from this Fall - taken in the North Georgia mountains, the foothills of the Appalachian trail - with the last Autumn-themed playlist of the season.
I hope you have been enjoying Fall as much as I have.

1. Sun It Rises - Fleet Foxes (Quintessential fall folk band)
2. Lord Knows - Dum Dum Girls (this is my favorite song at the moment)
3. A Widow's Toast - Neko Case
3. Three White Horses - Andrew Bird (off his latest Hands of Glory, a "leftovers"album from Break It Yourself )
4. I'll Build You A Fire - Seabear
5. Paperweight - Schuyler Fisk and Joshua Radin
6. Instrumental III - Noah and the Whale
7. If I Needed You - Andrew Bird (also off Hand of Glory, which was perfect for a car trip to the Tennessee Mountains to visit my friend)
8. Pearls on a String - Ryan Adams
9. Wind and Walls - The Tallest Man on Earth
10. Come Back to Us - Release the Sunbird
11. Down in the Valley - The Head and The Heart

Hear it.

Atlanta Lately...

sunset cookies halloween
sunset horses
Awestruck by the glorious sunsets ... Hand-painting cookies at work and decorating Autumn cakes... finally watching Freaks and Geeks, 12 years too late ... Dressing as a black and white silent film star for Halloween (pictured with the Queen of Hearts) ... Exploring the Buckhead nightlife ... Driving to Chattanooga for a day to visit a dear college friend ... Aways being surrounded by old photos and memories ... A Sunday trip to the North Georgia mountains for peak leaves ... Getting along really well with my parents ... Iced Pumpkin Lattes ...

Fall in Georgia has been better than I even expected it to be. I am really thankful to have this time at home with family and friends before embarking on new, semi-permanent adventures.
It's strengthening my roots.

Sweet Potato & Black Bean Salad

sweet potato and black bean salad
Whether bringing to a Fall potluck dinner or leftovers for lunch, this Sweet Potato & Black Bean Salad will become your new go-to veggie side (it has mine!).

Sweet Potato & Black Bean Salad
2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped
1 red onion, chopped
olive oil
salt and pepper
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1-15oz can black beans, drained and rinsed
handful cilantro, chopped

Place sweet potatoes and red onions on a baking tray and drizzle with olive oil until evenly coated.
Sprinkle with salt, pepper, cumin and cinnamon.
Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes or until veggies are browned and roasted.
Stir occasionally while it's baking.
Once done, let cool.
Put potatoes and red onions in a large bowl and add black beans and cilantro until combined.
Serve at room temperature.

Big Sur & the Coast {Day 7}

big sur
can't get enough of the water's color
big sur big sur big sur
Our last day spent in NorCal was exploring Big Sur and the surrounding scenic highway. Unfortunately, that darn fog overcast the whole weekend, but it did make for some moody, Arctic looking seascapes. I still can't get over how aqua and clean the water looked.
I know Big Sur is a sight to see on a sunny day, where you can see the boulders for miles and the sun sparkles on the water, but that's why I will just have to return!

Despite the weather, I was still captivated by beauty of the coast.
am I in Ireland?
coast coast
At times it was so overcast and dreary - this picture looks like it was taken in black and white,  and it wasn't.
