We're having a Christmas Party!

A few weeks ago the rooms and I hosted a Christmas Party...costumes (or just festiveness) required. She was Balthazar (a magi/wise man) and I was the Ghost of Christmas Present.

Mixtape Monday: Christmas Mix Vol. 11

Christkindlmarket - German food, mulled wine, and expensive Christmas ornamentswalnut room

Christmastime in Chicago is beats any other city I've lived in. Between the Christkindlmarket and adorned storefronts and trees everywhere, it's hard not to fall in love, even with the less than desirable weather. It's a bit odd that there's no snow on the ground, but I'll take it, assuming January will dump it all at once.
Here's a little indie holiday playlist (my only one this season?!) to get you in the spirit:

1. It's Christmas - Coconut Records
2. Christmas Party - Dr. Dog
3. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree - She & Him
4. Silver Bells - Alice Smith
5. Frosty the Snowman - Zee Avi
6. FaLaLaLaLove Ya - Nikki Lane
7. So Much Wine, Merry Christmas - Andrew Bird
8. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Cat Power
9. Real Love - Tom Odell (because it was in a John Lewis Christmas advert)
10. Please Please Please - Slow Moving Mille (also in a John Lewis Christmas advert)
11. Christmas - Rogue Wave

Butternut Squash, Arugula, & Goat Cheese Tartine

Butternut Squash, Arugula, & Goat Cheese Tartine
Tartines (open face sandwiches) are my new favorite breakfast food. I feel like with breakfast it's easy to get into a rut of eating the same thing for months until you begin to not have an appetite for anything. I've been trying to switch things up - to make sure that I do eat something in the morning, and all the school years of cereal and pop tarts are making me want anything but sugar.
Tartines are also a great way to get some veggies in first thing and keep you satisfied well into your day.

Butternut Squash, Arugula, & Goat Cheese Tartine
Sauté cubed butternut squash with minced garlic in some olive oil until tender and cooked through. Season with salt and pepper. On a warm toasted slice of hearty bread, spread herbed goat cheese and top with arugula and butternut squash.

Leftovers can be kept separately for several days (just reheat squash in microwave before putting on toast)

Salt + Smoke Dinner Party {Anthro}

Can we talk about why we weren't invited to this dinner party? Delicious looking food that I've mostly never heard of + Anthropologie tableware! That cocktail looks super neat.

Can we also talk about how a banh mi deli opened right next to my Anthro, which is walking distance from my apartment (and down the street from Jeni's Ice Cream)?

Chairish: 3 Looks for the Holidays

I teamed up with Chairish again to show you their newly added (AMAZING) vintage jewelry and fashion accessories collection - and how to style them with different holiday party looks.

Bronze Age: Take a break from the sequins with an underrated bronze on bronze outfit. Pair with an unfussy hair style and red lips.
Where to buy: necklace / dress / clutch
Emerald City: To many people capitalize on wearing red during the holidays - be different and wear green! Gold eye shadow will play off the emerald and wear your hair up to show off the earrings.
Where to buy: bracelet / earrings / dress
Black & Gold: Make your grandmother proud and wear a brooch! Compliment this statement dress with black cat eyes and nude lips.
