Chicago Lately...

jenny cake
My bakery makes the most amazing cakes, RIGHT!?
It's been a while since I last touched base and a lot has happened.... How is it almost JUNE!?!

I turned 27 and had a Jenny Lewis cake, celebrated with friends eating tacos and going out dancing ... Real Housewives of Improv opened after months and years of dreaming about it ... graduated iO and am sorta done with improv classes for the time being, focusing on performing now ... my parents came to town and we walked all over Chicago, saw the Van Gogh exhibit and ate Indian food ... celebrated 1 year since our first Tinder date with Michael by going to the place we met ... reminisced about how this time last year I was in Iceland with Vern and how it was life-changing ... got bangzzzz ... started reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, I highly recommend, esp. if you are in the arts ... realized I've now been out of college for as long as I was in college ... made Michael a big ole cookie cake for his bday and wrapped his presents pretty cool (wish I took a pic) ...  performed my first solo sketch doing my characters that have been living inside me for a couple years (sounds creeeeepy) ... saw Ellie Goulding (fo' free) in the sweetest "babysitting" gig there ever was ... had LEMONADE on repeat ... finally finished Nurse Jackie ... went to my cousin's wedding in Virginia for a short weekend, I forgot my dress, but thank GOD for Belk, also it was great to see family ... whipped up this dinner - healthy and oh so yummy ... sent off one of my bakery besties, now she has a real person job and I miss seeing her everyday ...

Life seems a lot more certain now, and stable. Hustling for performance opportunities will always be a thing, but that's what I signed up for when I decided I was madly in love with improv/comedy and that's its what I want to do with my life.

Ellie experience // finally went to Devon in Chicago - the Indian neighborhood with restaurants and sari shops galore!
Michael's mom made this picture of us into a puzzle. I like it. We look like an old-timey music duo from the 60's.

Tuna Casserole

A couple weeks ago, out of nowhere, I was REALLY wanted some Tuna Casserole. Never grew up having it. Just really wanted it, random.
So, I did my best and came up with a semi-healthy version (YUMMY too!)

16oz egg noodles (cooked and drained)
3 cans tuna (drained)
3 large carrots (peeled and chopped)
1 chopped onion
1 cup frozen peas
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 can cream of broccoli soup
salt and pepper to taste

Spread into casserole dish and bake at 350 for 30 min

Dream(y) Living Room {Laurel & Wolf}

I often think about if I had an additional living space, how I would decorate it. My never-ceasing obsession with LA design bloggers makes me want all white interiors with pops of soft pink and gold. Not an ideal color palette for Chicago winters, but if I ever moved out West, this is how I would want my home to look.
I teamed up with Laurel & Wolf, an online interior design service, to conjure up my dream(y) living room.
I'm in love with Bri Emery's big fluffy white couch. Ideal for entertaining and cosy movie nights.
Just looking at it makes me wanna take a nap.
Accents of rose, gold, and an animal rug warm up the space (this is actually an office!) // Also Bri Emery's mantel - check out her DIY on how to make the garland
White fur throws and logs for a fire spice things up at this dreamy home.
I like the incorporation of graphic black lines in both of these living rooms. The guitars add a nice touch.
To top off my dream space I would want custom-made built in shelves filled with books of colorful spines, like in Victoria Smith's home (see below).

Pretty sweet, eh?

Be sure to check out Laurel & Wolf's Pinterest, Instagram, and blog for more INSPIRATION!

What would your dream living room look like?

Mixtape Monday: {one more} Alt-Country

Because Beyoncé has graced us with a country-ish song, I figured it was time for another left-of-center country playlist.

1. High Time - Kacey Musgraves (She's the Katy Perry of country music. Rhinestones, neon, and little skirts.)
2. Golden Boy - Caitlin Rose
3. John Saw That Number - Neko Case
4. Boxcar - Shovels & Rope
5. The Day You Die - Lindi Ortega (love the 60's vibe to this)
6. Right Time - Nikki Lane
7. Daddy Lessons - Beyoncé (LEMONADE is amazing, each and every song is a standout)
8. Light of Day - Aubrie Sellers
9. I Drew A Line - Folk Family Revival
10. Idiot - Escondido
11. Clean Slate - Erin Rae and the Meanwhiles
12. Good Ol' Boys Club - Kacey Musgraves
